Wat Muay Tor

The term “Muay Tor”, Tai Yai language that people in general pronounce inaccurately from its original pronunciation. Actually, it must be pronounced as “Muay Tor” (lower tone for Muay) meaning Phra That Muay Tor, which is Wat Phra That in the central language. This temple is more than 150 years old and was built in 1854 according to Tai Yai art. There is also a Mon-style decorated pagoda surrounded by its satellite pagodas. Inside this temple, there are lychee trees planted by King Rama 9. During the World War II period, the Japanese army retreated from Myanmar after Japan had declared for war losing. Due to many injured soldiers, Wat Muay Tor was used as a temporary hospital. Many soldiers died here during that time. Thus, some of them were buried at Wat Muay Tor.
