Learning activity in making Ma Tao lantern (Mah-Tao lantern), Baan Khom Kham

Ma Tao lantern (Mah-Tao lantern), cultural heritage of the Nan people that made as offerings to Buddhist worship and prosperity. Nowadays, many types of lamps are used including decoration in temples, houses, and tourist attractions. There are 4 general types of lamps which are holding lantern or lantern with rabbit ears, float lantern, hanging lantern, and normal lantern. For Ma Tao lantern (Mah-Tao lantern) that is classified as a hanging lamp or also known as "Dhammajak" means "enlightened knowledge in dharma". It has an angular shape and has a round shape like a breast or watermelon. The pattern used for decoration is the Siamese pattern, derived from the word Vajara that believed to be the weapon of Indra which used to repel evil and be protective. It is adorned on all 4 sides, therefore believe that it can prevent things badly in all 4 directions.  For making Ma Tao lantern (Mah-Tao lantern), It is said that lovers who do together will love each other even more like making an illumination device to guide their love to be bright, smooth, safe from various obstacles. For Baan Khom Kham, a place to learn how to make Ma Tao lanterns (Mah-Tao lantern) is counted as an activity of Muang Tud Sub-district that teaches from the first step which are sharpening the tree, sticking the mulberry paper and decorating with golden paper until the final step which is to go to Wat Phra That Chae Haeng and put it. This activity has received attention from both lovers, family, friends or as souvenirs/home decorations. It is considered as one of the valuable treasures of Nan.
