Phra That Doi Saken
“ is an ancient pagoda in the northernmost city of Siam. There is also a legend that locals have passed down that when the Lord Buddha had attained enlightenment and left Maha Chetawan Vihara in the southeast, he saw a mountain and came to visit to help animals. That mountain is now called “Doi Phra Bat Thung Ko” located in Thung Ko Subdistrict, Wiang Chiang Rung District, Chiang Rai. After that, he looked to the west and saw another mountain, so he came to visit to help animals on this mountain as well. There were local people living here, the “Lua” people. The locals brought requisites to offer to the Lord Buddha, which is called “Kar Ken Khong”. When the Lord Buddha passed away, the locals built a pagoda to enshrine the relics for worship. They called this mountain “Doi Lawa Ken” after the locals, and it became “Doi Saket” today. Thank you for information from: https://www.dailynews.co.th/women/734544/
