Wat Yai Chaimongkol
Wat Yai Chaimongkol, formerly known as "Wat Pa Kaew" or "Wat Chao Thai", is located in the southeast of Ko Phra Nakhon. It was built in 1900 as a residence for the Pa Kaew monks, with Somdej Phra Wanrat as the head monk, so it was named Wat Chao Phraya Thai. Pa Kaew monks assumed that it was the place where candlelight vigils were held before Phra Theerarat was crowned and seized power from Khun Worawongsa Thirat and Thao Si Sudachan. Wat Pa Kaew or Wat Chao Thai was abandoned when Ayutthaya was lost for the second time around 2309. The Kong Bong Kingdom moved its troops to close in on Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. Somdej Phra Thinang Suriyat Amarin ordered the navy to leave the capital and reside at Wat Pa Kaew, but the Siamese navy was defeated by the enemy. Phraya Phetchaburi was killed. Some of the Kong Bong Kingdom's army seized Wat Pa Kaew as a base of operations. When Ayutthaya fell in 1767, this temple was abandoned. It is now an area of Khlong Suan Phlu Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District. Source: https://thailandtourismdirectory.go.th/th/info/attraction/detail/itemid/1458
